About the Author

Laurie Lyons-Makaimoku relocated to the Island of Hawai’i from Austin, TX in 2016, looking for a temporary change of pace. After falling in love with the Island (and one of its inhabitants), she permanently relocated to the rainforests of east Hawai‘i as part of a new ‘ohana. Since then, she’s spent time developing an appreciation for Hawai‘i’s places, people, and food, focusing her writing on travel and lifestyle content that highlights all of the special things about the Hawaiian islands. She is always working to find a balance between sharing this special place with the world and doing her part to ensure that tourism is sustainable and ethical. She now shares her home with her husband, two kids, and 15 rescue animals while writing about travel, culture, dining, local businesses, and more for publications including HAWAI‘I Magazine, Matador Network, TripAdvisor, and AAAVia.
