Samuel Dashiell Hammett (1894–1961), known professionally as Dashiell Hammett, was an American author of hard-boiled detective novels and short stories. He is often described as one of the finest mystery writers of all time. In addition to The Maltese Falcon, his most well-known novels include Red Harvest (1929), The Dain Curse (1929), The Glass Key (1931), and The Thin Man (1934).
